TIFU by not translating Spanish properly

Granted, this happened roughly 4 years and 4 months ago, but it still haunts me to this day.

I was taking Spanish 2 in high school, and the class that day was proceeding like normal. We had a unit test in a couple days, so our class time was spent doing review. The teacher let us review however we wanted, so everyone was in groups doing their own thing.

I was sitting with my friend, and we were trying to use our Spanish vocabulary words in Spanish sentences. Basically, we would say a sentence out loud in Spanish, and then we would say the same sentence out loud again, but in English.

We got through several sentences okay, but then I f*cked up. I said, in Spanish: "My older brother bothers me." That was all fine. The problem is that the Spanish word for "bother" is molestar. When I started saying the same sentence in English a moment later, my brain turned off and I said out loud: My older brother [**lests] me.

Of course, two seconds before I made that slip-up, everyone in our usually noisy classroom decided to shut up, so everyone in the classroom heard my English translation statement, but literally no one heard my original Spanish statement. They just heard the English mistranslation. Everyone turned towards me, with a mix of shock, confusion, and fear. My friend (who knew what really happened) started laughing uncontrollably until he literally fell out of his chair. Of course, I was a laughingstock for the rest of my high school experience.

TL;DR: I misspoke while trying to translate a Spanish sentence to English. I ended up saying that my older brother **lests me, whereas I meant to say, that my older brother bothers me. For christ's sake, I don't even have a brother in real life!
