Hey fellow Redditors,
So, this just happened in the last hour, and I can't believe the mess I got myself into. Today, I went to my usual local shop, which is the only one I can walk to, as every other store is a 5 to 10-minute drive away. I've never had any problems there before, except for some drunk people causing a ruckus occasionally.
Anyway, I picked up a few items totaling £6 and handed over a £5 note and a £2 coin, making it a total of £7. I was supposed to get £1 change back, right? That's where the trouble started. The cashier insisted I had given them exact change and refused to return the £1.
I'm not one to back down easily, so I argued my point, telling them that I gave them £7 and was owed change. To my surprise, another cashier jumped in and called me a liar! I was stunned and suggested they check the till to verify the cash or even review the security cameras to see the transaction.
But instead of resolving the issue, they accused me further and ended up banning me from the shop! Can you believe that? Now, I'm not only £1 short but also banned from the only convenient shop in my small village.
I'm feeling so frustrated and irritated by this whole ordeal. I can't believe how things escalated, and I can't help but think I should have just let it go. Now, I'm worried about how this will spread in the close-knit community.
I'm here to share this story and also ask for some legal advice on how to deal with the situation. Can I do anything about this unfair treatment and false accusations? Should I try to resolve this amicably or take some action against the shop?
TL;DR: Went to the only nearby shop, handed over £7 for a £6 purchase, and expected £1 change. Cashier accused me of giving exact change, and I got banned after arguing my point. Feeling robbed, frustrated, and in need of legal advice.
