TIFU by accidentally telling my friends girlfriend about his sex tape

No real names used, obviously.

So, backstory, I have a friend, "Tom" that I know from high school whos currently in college. In the winter break of 2019, he and his friends from college had decided to fly back to our hometown to spend Christmas and New Year, because one of his other friends, "Jake" is also from our hometown but went to a different high school. Since Toms parents moved out, they're all staying at Jakes place. While he's here, me and Tom hang out, and then we all go to a new years party at Jakes's house. Its mostly made up of people from Jakes high school, so I don't know anybody there.

So the party is going on ok, but people are already smashed and its not even midnight. Tom gets super drunk and gets approached by this girl from Jakes high school. And this girl is horny. She wants Tom. So they're flirting with each other, and I'm kinda sitting adjacent to them, doing nothing (Im kind of a known wallflower, especially since I don't know anybody there, I had just been hanging with Tom the whole time). They start talking about sex, in pretty graphic, yet casual detail, like "I've done this, my favorite position is this," yadda yadda yadda. I'm just chilling in the background. Then, Tom says to her, "wait here." And he goes off into the guest room where he's been staying, and comes back with his laptop. Tom busts it open, opens a few files, and before anyone else knows it, the guy is showing a pov sex tape of him and some girl in the middle of a party. He tells her (and me) that the girl is an F.W.B, and he's been hooking up with her in college. Important to note that the girl in the sex tape is very tan: even though I could only see the lower part of her body, I can distinguish the shade of her skin color. Anyway I think its fucking weird, that he did this at all, I didn't expect to see my friends penis that day, but apparently it gets the right reaction from the girl because Tom and her leave together to find somewhere private. So I fuck off to go play some beer pong.

Two minutes pass and I see Tom and Jake appear across the room. Jake appears to be scolding Tom. Out of curiosity, I go to them, and Jake sees me, and he asks me if Tom had sex with that girl. I say I don't know, but yeah it seemed like it. Jake tells me that Tom has a girlfriend in college. And that's when I suddenly remember that Tom told me before that he has a girlfriend. So you know, we throw the bible at his ass, tell him to tighten up. He tells us and says that he and the girl didn't do anything. He says she was about to blow him, but he stopped her just before she could. I have no idea if he was telling the truth or not, but we both kind of take him at his word. Feel bad for the girl, because she left the party early, and apparently some other girl told me she was feeling pretty humiliated.

So, flash forward to the present time. Now I've been accepted into college, and as it turns out, its the same college as Tom and Jake and his friends. This august will be the start of my freshman year. Two days ago, I finally arrived in this new city— i haven't left my hometown in two years because of COVID. Tom is starting his Junior year. He invites me to hang out at his apartment to smoke, play some video games, and meet his girlfriend, "Kim", who is also starting her junior year. I go to their place and meet her in person for the first time. She is super nice, really friendly, and we're all getting along well. So we spend the next few hours playing games, smoking and just having a good time. I'm asking them a lot of questions about the college, what to expect, what the people are like, so on and so on. We get to the subject of parties, and I ask whats going on party wise. They say its pretty dead because of COVID, but there still are a few. I don't remember exactly how he articulated it, but Tom jokes and says something like "the parties are really quiet, so you'd like it, you weirdo," because of my shyness.

So that's when I reply and say something like "I'm weird? I'm not the one who busted out his sex tape in the middle of a fucking party last year."

And then I see Kim's face, and she has this weird expression. And then I look at Tom, and he's also staring at me, trying to talk to me with his eyes. It suddenly dawns on me that I may have just ratted out Tom for showing a sex tape of him and his girlfriend. I thought beforehand, maybe she freaky like that and they had some arrangement, or she's kind of a voyeur. But now, I realise that Tom sharing the sex tape with his girlfrined in the middle of the party has probably not been sanctioned by Kim. So we sit there for a second in complete awkward silence.

But that's when the lightbulb in my head switches on and my brain makes the connections. I realise two things: the girl in the video that Tom showed (and I remember every detail because its burned into my mind now) was very tan. And Kim happens to be very very pale. white So much so, that no one could confuse the two, even if the first girl was only seen from the bottom half only. So I dont want to embarrass the nice girl I just met. I dont want her to think that Ive seen video footage of her having sex.

So to spare her embarrassment, I blurt out "Don't worry, it wasn't you! It was a different girl!"

Kim eyes scream murder. Tom is dead silent and pale. I'm sitting there like Jesse Pinkman eating dinner at Walts house, because I realise the implications of what I just said. A few seconds of silence pass. Kim gets up and says "Tom, can I talk to you alone for a moment?"

Tom walks off to another room like a man going to the gallows. Kim then looks at me and says thanks for coming, it was so nice to meet you, and I take that as an indication to leave. I shut the door behind me, and I instantly hear arguing and yelling.

I get a text from Tom today saying that they've broken up. So now I realise that my friend is kind of a scummy horndog. If I knew for certain that he was cheating on his girlfriend, would I have still told her? I honestly don't know. But not knowing at all and just blurting something out like that is not how I would end that relationship if I wanted to. So anyway, I made things awkward with my friend, broke up two people, and its how I fucked up today.

TL:DR I witnessed a sex tape of my friend and some girl, mentioned it in conversation while my friends girlfriend was present, and tried to fix the situation by telling her that it wasn’t her in the video, ended up breaking them up.
