TIFU by accidentally saying no when my fiancé was proposing.

So I’ve known my fiancé was going to propose for awhile. We went ring shopping a few months ago and he even told me when he ordered it. However, I had absolutely no idea when or how it was going to happen (I definitely should’ve picked up on it).

Yesterday marked 5 years of us dating, so we went on a beautiful date today at an interactive museum that also has a park and pond. He had gone a few weeks prior to get some information about the area and planned out the whole day for us (hint #1). He didn’t tell me too much about the plans, but he said his roommate was going to tag along so we could get some nice pictures at a certain place he wanted to take me there (hint #2).

About a week ago he kept asking me if I wanted to get my nails done for our date so they would look nice for our photos (hint #3), but I kept refusing. Yesterday evening he kept stressing that I wore something really nice for the date, even though it would be ridiculously hot and neither of us usually cares that much about what we wear (hint #4). Also, this morning he woke me up about 2 hours before our alarm went off and kept trying to rush me to get up and ready for our date. When I was tired and slow he was practically jumping off the walls trying to hurry me along to “keep the schedule” (hint #5). When we finally headed out for breakfast he was very adamant about holding my hand the whole time and he kept awkwardly rubbing my ring finger with his thumb (hint #6), but I just thought he was super excited for the day to start.

After we got to the museum his roommate kinda disappeared (hint #7), which is strange because we are all good friends and enjoy doing things like that together. The whole time I was looking through the first building he kept eagerly trying to get me to hurry along so we could get to the outside parts of the museum (hint #8), which usually doesn’t happen because we are content spending hours looking through museums. When we finally did get outside and began making our way to the next area he stopped at this beautiful island in the middle of the pond and fumbled with something in his pocket for a few seconds before grabbing my hand again and taking me to the next stop (hint #9). He seemed a little nervous and extra sweet the entire time we were talking with the museum workers and going through the town exhibit (hint #10), but I just thought it was because he was worried we wouldn’t have time to see everything and get some pictures, but felt bad for rushing me earlier.

We caught up with his roommate when we were about to finish seeing the last bit of the town and decided to take the car to the next area, which required going back over the island from earlier. When we all got to the bridge we decided to stop and take some photos there before moving on. After a few shots his roommate called him over to take a look at them and I was specifically told to stay where I was (hint #11). When he was about to walk back to me he turned to his roommate to say something so I couldn’t see or hear it while walking backwards towards me before turning and smiling at me (hint #12).

I’m 100% honest when I say I had absolutely no idea it was going to happen until that moment. Something about seeing him walk backwards towards me made me finally put two and two together. When I realized, my jaw dropped and I said, “Wait, no. No you aren’t. What did you just tell her?”

He told me that he just told her to walk back to get some farther shots and grabbed both of my hands to make me face him. At that point I was in complete shock and could only muster another “no” right as he went to pull the ring out of his pocket. His face went white as a ghost before he got down on one knee and was visibly flustered by what I said. I completely froze up and couldn’t spit any words out while he started asking me to marry him. The best I could do was nod my head yes, but he clearly couldn’t tell I was and was getting more and more nervous. I was finally able to whisper a “yes” while holding back tears, and I saw all the color return to his face when he put the ring on my finger.

He told me later that he seriously thought that I was trying to stop him from proposing because “there was no way [I] didn’t know.” Nope, I had absolutely no idea what was going on until it was about to happen. I had PLENTY of hints, and I’m usually great at reading him, but for some reason I was completely clueless this time and it almost broke my fiancé.

TL;DR: When I realized my fiancé was about to propose I said “no” in disbelief and he thought I was trying to stop him from asking because I had plenty of hints to know it was coming.

TIFU - Don’t do what I did

On Sunday morning Aug. 24th, I awoke to discover a large blind spot in my right eye, which turned out to be what is called wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It has resulted in a very significant, permanent loss of vision in that eye. Although I maintain good peripheral vision, whatever I focus on at best is very blurry, and mostly disappears. I can barely make out the large E at the top of the eye chart. If this happens to my left eye I’ll be unable to read or drive. It turns out that I missed the opportunity that I had to prevent this from becoming a serious problem because I failed to report what appeared to be minor changes in my vision. In the weeks prior to August I had noticed that what I knew to be straight lines appeared to my right eye to have a little waviness. I also noticed that the color of my front lawn, which I could see through the window from my recliner,  was subdued, looked almost gray, in my right eye. So I scheduled an eye exam, which revealed the p...

TIFU by getting suspended for 2 days by my front office in school.

I (13M) am an African American student at Jeannette junior high who had got suspended for 2 days here. I was in math class minding my business until my teacher had told me to go to the main office, which posed no problem to me. As i went down there, the people of the front office had stopped me and made me get a new ID (yes, we have id's.) so i had asked them if i could maybe do a different alternative and call my mother to let her bring the Id here, even then, the Id isn't that important. So, although i was talking to them in a calm manner and not showing any signs of rebellion, they had threatened to call the police on me without thinking twice before calling my parents. This is where i started getting angry, and even then now the black peers agree that could have been a racially motivated action. They then told me to sit in the office conference room because of that, leading into more anger. They had then called my mother who had came over to the school didn't even let ...

TIFU by putting my already skinny jeans in the dryer on high heat.

TL;DR: Was stupid and didn't realize I put my clothes on extra high heat in the dryer. Had to rock skintight skinny jeans all day with tighty whities (only clean pair I had since I procrastinate doing laundry like crazy). I guess the constant wedgies and squishing are punishment for my stupidity. Honestly don’t know who else to blame but myself for this. I’m a scatterbrained guy so I literally put the highest setting on a load with most of my clothes, and my skinny jeans that I was planning to wear today. You can probably already see where this is going, but somehow I didn’t. For context, these jeans were already pushing the limits of what could reasonably be called wearable. They fit, technically, but only in the sense that I could get them on with enough determination and a bit of strategic breathing. Sitting down in them was more of a commitment than a casual action. Still, they looked good, and I had convinced myself that discomfort was just part of the aesthetic. So this m...
