Yesterday I saw a free boat listed online in a town near my city. I texted the number on the post and the guy told me to call him in the morning. A free boat is a good deal and I was worried about getting beat out by some faster deal hunter, so I set my alarm to make sure I was the first one to respond. Jumped in the car and made it out to the address. When me and my partner got there the thing was pretty shredded with fiberglass sticking out everywhere. I thought it just needed a refinish so I said sure, I’ll take it. I figured I could do the work—the partner and I took on a huge boat project a few years back and I didn’t want to drag them into it. But when we flipped over the boat I realized it was going to be a much bigger project than I could take on myself. I felt bad backing out and we’d already driven so far, so we went ahead and grabbed this flimsy old thing and now it’s taking up most of our yard. The weight of the project is sitting on my chest. My only hope is that some handy friend will come take it off our hands. TL;DR TIFU by getting a busted boat that I don’t want to work on.
