This fuck up wasn’t today, but was this past Saturday. Hard lesson learned, being lazy really didn’t pay off.
Before I start, let me first say, I accept that this is totally on me. I’m not blaming anyone, just sharing my experience, and my very recent eye opening regarding Instacart.
So, back in late 2018, I was recovering from Achilles surgery and started using Instacart for groceries. It was great, since trying to carry anything was not gonna happen on crutches. I’ve also never been a huge fan of grocery shopping, so this was a win-win for me. At the time, I didn’t think the charges and fees were that horrible.
Well, I’ve basically been doing this ever since then, and never really gave it much thought. I knew there were added fees and such, and over the years I had seen the increases and kinda just rolled with it.
So, this past weekend my GF was going to Aldi, which is where I usually shop, so I decided to tag along and grab some stuff. I almost immediately noticed the difference in prices of individual items, so I kept shopping for more stuff, nothing crazy just stuff I would normally order. Finished up, paid and went home. Spent about $71.00.
I sat down later that day, and took my receipt and made a mock order via Instacart. I added every single item I bought to my cart, and went all the way to the checkout stage. At that point, I almost choke from the shock. Once I added in my typical 20% tip, I felt absolutely nauseous. Taking an hour of my day on Saturday, to actually go to the grocery store, had saved me $50. Fifty fucking dollars. I honestly had no idea how expensive it had gotten, and now I feel kinda sick at the amount of money I’ve literally just thrown away.
TL;DR Learned the hard way that using IC on a regular basis meant I was spending almost double on my groceries.
