So, this happened last weekend when I went to my boyfriend's parents' house for the first time to meet his family. I wanted to make a good impression, you know? Be polite, act normal, the whole deal. Anyway, after dinner, I went to the bathroom to freshen up. I saw this fancy soap dispenser by the sink—like, one of those artisanal-looking ones with flowers on it—and thought, “Wow, they really care about their soap game.” I used it to wash my hands, and it smelled AMAZING.
But then I noticed something weird. The soap didn’t lather… like, at all. I just assumed it was one of those fancy hand creams disguised as soap (fancy people do that, right?), so I used more, rubbed it around, and left the bathroom feeling fresh and floral. Cut to 20 minutes later at the dinner table. My boyfriend’s mom casually asks if anyone had been in the guest bathroom. I said I had, and she goes, “Oh, just checking because I noticed someone used my essential oil diffuser refill.”
Y’all. THE SOAP WAS NOT SOAP. I had been aggressively rubbing essential oil liquid all over my hands like it was Bath & Body Works. I wanted to evaporate on the spot. The kicker? The mom looked at me and said, “At least your hands will smell nice for a week!” Safe to say, I’m never living this one down. Lesson learned: not all liquids in dispensers are soap.
TL;DR: Used an essential oil diffuser refill as hand soap while trying to impress my boyfriend’s family, only to embarrass myself forever.
