My mom is Hindu and thinks eating beef is the worst thing you could do but not just eating it, having it in the house or having anything touch it. I was cooking shin ramyun today and didn't know it had beef in it, my mom came to the kitchen and asked if there was chicken in it because she doesn't eat chicken either. I told her I don't know and she started reading the ingredients on the package and saw beef extract on it and then started tearing up. I realized I fucked up when she showed me and started absolutely bawling like I mean in hysterics. She locked her herself in her room and I started cleaning everything, threw out the rest of the ramen packs, even sprayed down the place in the pantry the packets were. She came out and she was calmer but acted how people do in deep grief, she told me to throw away the pot and fork I made it with and to spray lysol everywhere in the kitchen. She also said she wasn't going to eat for 14 days to repent for it. In the past she's said if I touched beef I couldn't do the rituals after her death which is a problem because I'm the only child, and now I think she genuinely doesn't see me the same way. I know with any sort of food restriction you need to check ingredient lists carefully but it genuinely slipped my mind when I bought it I just wanted to try out new instant noodles. I wish I checked smh.
TL;DR: I cooked something with beef in my deeply Hindu household and my mom is devastated.
