TIFU by calling my grandpa

TIFU by accidentally liking my ex's Instagram post from 2019 while stalking her profile at 3 AM

This happened last night and I'm still in bed at 2 PM questioning every decision I've ever made.

Background: My ex (24F) and I (25M) broke up about eight months ago. It was mutual-ish, but I took it harder than I let on. I've been in the "doing fine, totally over it" phase for a while now. You know the phase. The one where you only check their profile four times a week instead of four times a day.

Last night I couldn't sleep. I was lying in bed, scrolling through my phone, and somehow ended up on her Instagram profile. I don't even remember how I got there. One minute I was watching a video about a raccoon learning to use a doorbell, the next minute I was deep in her 2019 archive.

I was being careful. I wasn't liking anything. I was just... observing. Like a wildlife documentary. "Here we see the ex in her natural habitat, captioning a photo of brunch with 'Sunday funday.'"

Then I found it. A photo from August 2019. Her at some music festival, wearing a flower crown, looking genuinely happy. The caption was something like "best weekend of my life." I stared at it for probably three full minutes. I wasn't even sad. I was just... curious. Who was she with? What was she listening to? Did she still have that flower crown?

My thumb slipped.

I liked the photo.

I didn't just like it. I double-tapped it. Hard. The kind of double-tap that sends a notification immediately. The kind that says "hey, someone from your past just scrolled all the way back to 2019 and touched your flower crown photo at 3:17 AM."

I panicked. I unliked it within about four seconds. But Instagram had already sent the notification. There's no undo for that. I sat there in the dark, holding my phone, watching the little heart icon turn back to grey, knowing that somewhere across the city, her phone had already buzzed.

She hasn't texted me. She hasn't called. She hasn't blocked me (yet). But I know she saw it. I know she knows. And I know that she knows that I know that she knows.

The worst part? I have a date on Friday with a girl I actually like. Now I'm going to spend the entire date wondering if my ex is going to post a screenshot on her story with the caption "when your ex from 8 months ago is still lurking."

I've considered deleting my entire Instagram account. I've considered changing my name and moving to a different time zone. I've considered just texting my ex and saying "hey, that like was an accident, I'm not actually still hung up on you, I was just bored and sleepless and your 2019 flower crown photo was objectively good."

But I won't. I'll just sit here. In bed. At 2 PM. Waiting for the consequences.

TL;DR: Was stalking my ex's Instagram at 3 AM, accidentally liked a photo from 2019, unliked it immediately, but the notification already went through. I have a date on Friday and I'm terrified.

TIFU by not disabling an option in Windows that seemingly made my PC stutter for the last 3 years

I bought a pretty good PC in 2019 (2300 € of goodness) but, a few months after I installed it, the PC started to have, at random, small freeze for like a second, every 10 to 50 min for seemingly no reason. I did tons of benchmark, pretty much read every posts about "my PC is stuttering/freezing help meee" on the internet, called the After Sale number from where I bought the PC. Removing and putting the GPU back helped for a few weeks, but then back to square one. Checked the state of my disks, the ventirad, everything ! Restarting the PC made the stuttering stop for like 1 or 2 hours that's it. I had GPU-Z and CPUID monitor on all the time to check if anything happened, and weirdly enough, having those monitoring program open made the stuttering way weaker ! Drove me absolutely crazy. Then one or two weeks ago I saw a post on r/buildapc about Fast Startup option in Windows and how it was a good idea to disable it... So I did. Since then, nothing. No stuttering, no f...

TIFU by accidentally adding the police to a private WhatsApp group for private poker nights / sports betting events.

So Poker is highly regulated here in Belgium, so is being a bookie. Yet for the past I don't know how many years I (first with some friends, now alone) have been organizing some private poker nights and have ran a private sports betting competition. This sounds like a big deal, but in reality it isn't. None of the proceeds go to me, nor is there a rake during the poker nights. Problem is: these poker nights happen in 2 pubs after hours when they are closed, both pub owners are really good mates of me. So technically the pubs might be violating the law even though people bring their own booze (some will bring a bottle of Wodka, some a crate of beer, etc ...), pub owners don't actually sell anything during those nights (technically, in practice they sometimes just serve at their cost). The buy-in is also limited to €25 euro (no rebuy), so they are basically soft home games, just taking place in a pub behind closed doors. And everyone knows each other. Most of these people...

TIFU by not getting visual confirmation on the lube he was using

Obligatory not today, but I was talking with my ex (the counterpart in this story) and he said he was surprised I hadn’t written this post yet, and truthfully, he’s right. So I (30 at the time, F) and my boyfriend (29 at the time, M) had been dating for a few months and were honestly having a blast. Maybe too much fun. A lot of late nights out. Both very spontaneous people with a lot of social and sexual energy when together, the latter being an important component of this story. One night we had decided to go to one of our neighborhood spots and have a few drinks before heading back to his place. In our city there’s this local artist that creates these awesome vending machines full of unique shit, some of it’s as simple as a pair of earrings or a bag of tiny ducks, but the fun ones are these mystery packages. I always liked choosing the spirit animal ones cause those contain a tiny toy animal and a card with some relatively snarky description of why your lazy like a shark or whateve...
