TIFU by telling my family that women lay eggs and almost ruining Thanksgiving

This was a couple of years ago, but with Thanksgiving around the corner, I thought I’d relive it.

I (29F) have a running gag with my husband (28M) where I rage bait him for fun. He loves science, so I specifically use scientific inaccuracies to bug him. A long time ago, I jokingly mentioned in passing to him that if you think about it, women lay eggs. Since babies come from fertilized eggs for human women, similar to birds, it’s kind of like women lay eggs too. For clarification, I totally know this isn’t the same case. It was just a joke I made. He really didn’t like that joke lol. Seeing how irritated he got by it just fueled me. So, whenever I feel like shutting him down, I throw that joke back out. Losing a fight? Women lay eggs. He’s got an attitude? Women lay eggs. He’s gloating when he wins a game? Women lay eggs. And it’s been this way for a while.

Fast forward to a couple Thanksgivings ago, my entire family went to visit my sister’s family a few hours away. It was a great trip, and we stayed at my sister’s house for a long weekend. We played games, went into town, and just had a great time. On Thanksgiving, before dinner, we were playing games as a family. My husband and I were talking about something (I can’t remember), and I threw the joke back into the conversation. My mom overheard me and looked confused. She asked what I said, and I told her that women lay eggs if you think about it. She thought it was funny, then my older brother chimed in and said it was hilarious and also kinda true. My sister heard us talking and joined in saying how ridiculous that was. It wound up being a loud family debate about childbirth, the formation of bird eggs, and the biological differences between human women and birds. It was so funny, and my husband was shaking his head the whole time.

The debate died down and we had a great dinner. Everyone was up really late hanging out and drinking, but since we had to drive home the next morning, I went to bed early. I was awakened by my husband crawling into bed around 3am. I was so upset that he was up that late with the drive, and he told me he’d explain in the morning. We slept a few more hours, got up, said our goodbyes, and hit the road. As soon as we got into the car, my husband told me what happened after I went to bed, and I could not have imagined any of it.

Apparently, my brother and sister were talking and he brought up the women laying eggs debate from earlier in the day. Somehow, the conversation spiraled into a full on yelling match that woke up my nieces. My husband was playing referee between them while they argued about everything but the kitchen sink. They called each other names, swore, unloaded years of repressed issues with each other, and my brother got his jacket and shoes and threatened to sleep in the car that night while my sister basically dared him to. He stormed out while my husband helped my sister calm down. My brother eventually came back and they just kinda went to sleep without solving anything after a couple hours of trying to one-up each other. The things they said to each other were straight up awful and mean, and all of it happened because of a goddam joke I tease my husband with.

So yeah. The trip wasn’t ruined because of it, but it came close. It’s been a couple of years and every once in a while, the joke comes up in our family and makes us all laugh. We just don’t talk about that big blow out. Thanks for reading!

TL;DR: I told a joke about women laying eggs that resulted in a sibling argument, yelling, and my brother threatening to sleep in his car while my husband reffed until 3am

TIFU by not disabling an option in Windows that seemingly made my PC stutter for the last 3 years

I bought a pretty good PC in 2019 (2300 € of goodness) but, a few months after I installed it, the PC started to have, at random, small freeze for like a second, every 10 to 50 min for seemingly no reason. I did tons of benchmark, pretty much read every posts about "my PC is stuttering/freezing help meee" on the internet, called the After Sale number from where I bought the PC. Removing and putting the GPU back helped for a few weeks, but then back to square one. Checked the state of my disks, the ventirad, everything ! Restarting the PC made the stuttering stop for like 1 or 2 hours that's it. I had GPU-Z and CPUID monitor on all the time to check if anything happened, and weirdly enough, having those monitoring program open made the stuttering way weaker ! Drove me absolutely crazy. Then one or two weeks ago I saw a post on r/buildapc about Fast Startup option in Windows and how it was a good idea to disable it... So I did. Since then, nothing. No stuttering, no f...

TIFU while being spicy with my Gf

I 26M have a gf 22f. We enjoy sex with each other but wanted to spice it up as she wanted to try something new and I was all for it. She had me order cuffs, a blindfold, and a vibrating plug which I thought would be fun to try. I let her know when they arrived and a few days after they arrived she came over and we got ready. She had me out the cuffs on her and blind fold first before I did anything else, followed by getting the plug ready. I put what I thought was a good amount of lube on it as one does. Well sadly when I slowly put the plug in, it immediately went all the way in as off it was just sucked in followed by a loud “AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHGHHHHH” which my dumbass at first thought “Oh she must really like it!” Until i realized it was from pain. I started panicking for a second then realized she was in pain, blind folded, and handcuffed. When I asked if she wanted me to take them off she said no and just sat there for about another 5 minutes. It didn’t completely ruin our spicey t...

TIFU by accidentally adding the police to a private WhatsApp group for private poker nights / sports betting events.

So Poker is highly regulated here in Belgium, so is being a bookie. Yet for the past I don't know how many years I (first with some friends, now alone) have been organizing some private poker nights and have ran a private sports betting competition. This sounds like a big deal, but in reality it isn't. None of the proceeds go to me, nor is there a rake during the poker nights. Problem is: these poker nights happen in 2 pubs after hours when they are closed, both pub owners are really good mates of me. So technically the pubs might be violating the law even though people bring their own booze (some will bring a bottle of Wodka, some a crate of beer, etc ...), pub owners don't actually sell anything during those nights (technically, in practice they sometimes just serve at their cost). The buy-in is also limited to €25 euro (no rebuy), so they are basically soft home games, just taking place in a pub behind closed doors. And everyone knows each other. Most of these people...
