There's a new barista at my local café so we introduced ourselves and got talking. The owner had already told me he was hiring a new person from Japan so I asked if she was from there. She said yes, from Nagasaki, and I just blurted out the question. The owner was right next to us and butted in at that moment.
I just knew the city sounded familiar for some reason, but clearly not as familiar as Hiroshima. Incredibly I actually managed to save it a bit because she then said Nagasaki is also famous for having like a faux Dutch village - we were having this conversation in the Netherlands, so I plausibly said that I'd seen it on a reel or something and that's why I knew Nagasaki was famous for something.
Either way, she was very polite about it, which will not surprise anyone, and I do intend to keep drinking coffee at the same establishment regardless of who is on shift.
TL;DR: I met someone from Nagasaki and asked what her city is famous for without thinking, but she was cool about it and revealed it is also famous for something else which kind of saved my ass
