So my apartment building sent out a notice asking residents to move their bikes out of the hallway because the floors were getting cleaned.
I moved mine into the basement storage area late Friday night. Completely forgot about it.
Sunday morning I walked downstairs, saw my usual spot empty and immediately assumed someone stole it.
Instead of checking literally anywhere else, I posted in our building's WhatsApp group warning everyone about a possible bike thief. I was pretty pissed too, wrote this whole paragraph about how management needs to take security seriously.
A few neighbors got involved, one offered to help and the building manager agreed to check the cameras.
This morning I got called downstairs to look at the footage.
There's a guy wearing a gray hoodie wheeling my bike toward the basement on Friday night.
I watched for maybe 10 seconds before realizing that guy was me.
Same hoodie, same stupid slippers I wear when taking the trash out.
The manager just stared at me while I tried explaining that I apparently forgot moving my own bicycle.
Worst part is he'd already sent an email to residents about the reported theft, so I had to write a correction in the group and apologize for wasting everyone's time.
Nobody has replied to my apology yet. Somehow that's worse than getting roasted.
TL;DR: Forgot I moved my bike into storage, reported it stolen, got management to investigate and discovered myself on the security footage.
