TIFU by not bringing my journal to class. Now I have an insane 15 page research paper worth 150 points.

For some context I go to a college prep high-school and I have an A day B day schedule where I only bring B day stuff B day and same for A day. It’s just too heavy to bring everything everyday. You can probably see where this is going.

So last week I noticed my backpack was getting really heavy to where it was hurting my shoulders. Last Thursday night I found some free time and took every class out of my binders and took out any papers that I didn’t need (like two 50 page packets) then I reorganized them into A day and B day binders. Friday was a B day so I packed my B day binder in my backpack and some A day homework incase I found free time to work on it.

Fast forward to last period, I have a class called Great Books where we analyze texts and do Socratic seminars on them. I then realize that I left my big ass 3 subject great books journal at home with my text and seminar discussion questions/pre work. The class policy is that you have to complete your pre work and bring that and the text to class for both days of the seminar or you’ll have to do a 15 page research paper answering the pre work questions and considering other points of view with 5 pieces of evidence for each question. It’s also worth 150 points. 😭

The full requirements of the project is: -finish the pre work (4 questions with 1 piece of evidence each (20 points)

-analysis response for 4 questions (2 pages for each question) -2 pieces of evidence from the text in each response -3 pieces of evidence from researched sources each -address each of the 4 questions with different viewpoints to make up for the Socratic seminar (80 points)

-write 4 more level 5-6 socratic seminar questions -provide a detail response to each -2 pieces of evidence from the text each -2 pieces of evidence from researched sources each -must be 5-6 pages total for this part (50 points)

Total of 150 points.

This assignment is insane.

I mistakenly thought that we had another class period to work on our pre work and wasn’t aware the seminar was that Friday. I also didn’t realize I forgot my notebook until that period. I have now spent my entire weekend doing this research paper along with other homework.

Thankfully this isn’t due until next Thursday but like I said, I go to a college prep school, so I’ll have lots of other homework throughout the week. My school is also very far away from my house. So I only have an hour on the bus ride home plus 5 hours at home to actually do homework because of my long bus rides. Not including time to eat and take breaks. I’m screwed.

TLDR: forgot to bring my notebook to class, now I have a 15 page research project with 6 days to complete and it’s worth 150 points. I also have 7 other classes that may assign homework before then.

TIFU - Don’t do what I did

On Sunday morning Aug. 24th, I awoke to discover a large blind spot in my right eye, which turned out to be what is called wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It has resulted in a very significant, permanent loss of vision in that eye. Although I maintain good peripheral vision, whatever I focus on at best is very blurry, and mostly disappears. I can barely make out the large E at the top of the eye chart. If this happens to my left eye I’ll be unable to read or drive. It turns out that I missed the opportunity that I had to prevent this from becoming a serious problem because I failed to report what appeared to be minor changes in my vision. In the weeks prior to August I had noticed that what I knew to be straight lines appeared to my right eye to have a little waviness. I also noticed that the color of my front lawn, which I could see through the window from my recliner,  was subdued, looked almost gray, in my right eye. So I scheduled an eye exam, which revealed the p...

TIFU by getting suspended for 2 days by my front office in school.

I (13M) am an African American student at Jeannette junior high who had got suspended for 2 days here. I was in math class minding my business until my teacher had told me to go to the main office, which posed no problem to me. As i went down there, the people of the front office had stopped me and made me get a new ID (yes, we have id's.) so i had asked them if i could maybe do a different alternative and call my mother to let her bring the Id here, even then, the Id isn't that important. So, although i was talking to them in a calm manner and not showing any signs of rebellion, they had threatened to call the police on me without thinking twice before calling my parents. This is where i started getting angry, and even then now the black peers agree that could have been a racially motivated action. They then told me to sit in the office conference room because of that, leading into more anger. They had then called my mother who had came over to the school didn't even let ...

TIFU by putting my already skinny jeans in the dryer on high heat.

TL;DR: Was stupid and didn't realize I put my clothes on extra high heat in the dryer. Had to rock skintight skinny jeans all day with tighty whities (only clean pair I had since I procrastinate doing laundry like crazy). I guess the constant wedgies and squishing are punishment for my stupidity. Honestly don’t know who else to blame but myself for this. I’m a scatterbrained guy so I literally put the highest setting on a load with most of my clothes, and my skinny jeans that I was planning to wear today. You can probably already see where this is going, but somehow I didn’t. For context, these jeans were already pushing the limits of what could reasonably be called wearable. They fit, technically, but only in the sense that I could get them on with enough determination and a bit of strategic breathing. Sitting down in them was more of a commitment than a casual action. Still, they looked good, and I had convinced myself that discomfort was just part of the aesthetic. So this m...
