I thought arugula would be a suitable substitute for spinach… Due to the hellish heatwave right now in much of the U.S., I’m trying to make no-cook meals with stuff I have in the house. I have a huge container of arugula I need to use so I thought it would be a great idea to make a berry smoothie with some greens. Normally, I use spinach, but I didn’t have any and walking to the store in this heat is dangerous right now. So I used arugula pretty generously. Arugula, blueberries, strawberries, yogurt, almond milk, and honey.
It was the most vile thing I’ve ever consumed. It tastes like one of those foods they would eat as a punishment in a YouTube video. It was sour, sweet, liquid super arugula. I’m not a picky eater, so I thought I could stomach whatever came out. Holy shit was I wrong. Never again.
TL;DR: arugula is not a substitute for spinach in a smoothie! I will be tasting this in my nightmares.
