My spouse and I have a healthy collection of extracurricular bedroom gear. Among the items is a leather mask with no eyeholes.
Sometimes I work overnight. When I get home in the morning, I crash in the guest bedroom so as to not disturb the rest of the household. To block out daylight, I use the leather mask as a sleep mask. It does a great job of blocking out light and sound. When I wake up, I toss it in the bedside drawer.
Recently, we went out of town and had a dog sitter stay overnight. She is a young adult whose mother works with me. We are usually very diligent about clearing the guest bedroom of personal items. Drawers checked. Surfaces cleared. Nothing weird left behind. This time, apparently, my brain took PTO.
When we returned home, we opened the guest bedroom and there it was: The leather mask. Out. In the open. On full display (and very much not where I left it).
At this point, my wife and I entered a shared state of silent horror. There is no damage control. There is no context that makes this better. There is only the knowledge that someone found it, handled it, moved it, and made an active choice about where to put it. Now I get to spend the rest of the holiday break imagining the conversation that may or may not have happened, followed by the inevitable moment when I have to see my coworker again.
TL;DR left a kinky mask out. My co-workers daughter found it.
