TIFU by having to cancel patio furniture for a lady's important celebration

This fuck up actually happened just yesterday and I was still feeling pretty bad about it, but figured it would be good to just get it out somewhere and cleanse myself of the mistake. So, I've been working for a particular home improvement store as a customer service associate for almost a year now. We typically do not help customers order anything. That is the responsibility of the sales floor associates- ie. The seasonal department would order you your tractor or flooring would help you order your shiplap. Anything that we don't stock at the store or anything considered a special order item actually HAS to be ordered with the associate in that department because at customer service we do not have the selling application to do that. Earlier this month on April 1st I had a customer (and what seemed like her whole extended family) come up to the desk to ask about ordering a shit ton of our patio furniture for delivery. Of course I gave her the standard, "We don't rea...

TIFU By revealing that I have a minor iota of computer related knowledge.

So, a few years ago I got slotted for a position at this school. The school itself taught aviation maintenance and due to this fact, the network infrastructure was... less than perfect. Which was very surprising due to the school itself basically running off PowerPoint for the classroom portions of the lessons. And all of the computers were linked together, booting straight from a server. So one thing to update, and update them all! Great idea, right? Keep in mind that prior to this, I have had ZERO experience and/or training with anything IT related and everything I know now was from strictly trial and error, coupled with luck, ménage à trois’ed with many days of frustration and YouTube. I was a week or two in and we were at a company gathering, I happened to be mingling to get to know some of my co-workers when my boss walks over and we start joking. “Haha! Hey man! So how’s the first couple weeks going for you?!” “Well I’m learning the ropes, but man... y’all’s computers are o...

TIFU by exclaiming “it smells like a dead body” when an actual dead body was in the house.

This happened in 2015 when I was a senior in high school. My grandfather had been diagnosed with cancer in September of 2014 and had been told that it was terminal. He had just retired and we were all really sad that he wasn’t going to be able to enjoy retirement with his wife (he remarried after my grandma). He was a goofy guy who wore pants with embroidered ducks on them and always had a magic trick to show everyone when we would visit. During his last day alive, my mother, sister and myself came over to support his wife. There were also neighbors coming in and out of the house saying their goodbyes and just consoling each other. When my grandfather passed away, we were all in the room with him and told him we loved him and that it was okay to let go. After we left the room to give his wife some time alone, my sister, my mom and I went downstairs to join the neighbors at the dining room table. This table was able to seat about 8 people and it was full so I was standing next to my ...

TIFU by not using my brain

Okay so a little backstory before we dive in, I'm a complete dumbass for this. I stopped by Walmart on the way home to get a few things my wife needed for the house. Well earlier today my stomach wasn't feeling all that great, been cramping and what not, but I ignore it because it comes and goes. So inside Walmart, I grab a basket and make my way to the back of the store over by the milk and stuff. Well the bathrooms happen to be right there tucked in the corner, and given that my stomach was cramping a little worse this time, I decided to step in the restroom before I get anything. So I leave my basket out by the wall and walk in. Nobody at first glance but then I realize all the stalls are occupied and my stomach is trying to tell me it's evacuating my colon ASAP. I really, really have to shit. You ever had those cramps where you have to clench your ass together and stand still for a second? Yeah that was me, so there was no way in hell I was walking all the way back to...

TIFU by opening a package with a box cutter the wrong way while half asleep, and slicing my hand open, leading to me needing stitches.

Hey! So today my dumb arse got to sleep about 7:30 am. At 10:30 I’m woken by a knock at the door. I get up, open he door, and it’s a package. Still half asleep I decide to open it. It’s a cardboard box with the cardboard stuck down for the seal so I grab a trusty box cutter Stanley knife thing, push out the tip and start cutting. Due to being half asleep and not really thinking, I stupidly cut towards my other hand. And naturally the knife slipped. I look at my left hand, blood dripping from the sizeable cut, and all I can think is, “I don’t have time for this.” Thankfully my first aid training kicked in, so I rinse my hand under the tap, then grab some tissues to put over the wound to catch the blood. I head into the bedroom, grab my first aid kit, and start cleaning the wound. Then I tape the wound shut, and cover it with a band aid. It’s not hurting that much, but I know it might later, and it needs proper medical attention. I call up my doctors, and make an appointment for la...

TIFU by packing a vibrator in my carry on bag

So as with many TIFUs here this didn’t happen today but over a decade ago, but seeing as the said product in question recently died, it felt right to share its journey. TLDR at the bottom. Growing up in a very religious household led to me being a bit naive in the world of diddle sticks. So when my SO took a job out of state about 1K miles away I was suddenly tasked with fulfilling my needs on my own. Conveniently my friend was hosting one of those ‘intimate parties’ and problem solved. A few weeks later I had planned a trip to visit said SO and he requested that I bring the new toy along. I argued against it, after all I was flying down for the real thing, but eventually relented. Now at this point in my life I am a very seasoned traveler, but back then I hadn’t flown much and never on my own but was only going down for the weekend so I threw everything in a duffle bag and called it a day. I blindly walk into that TSA line and my bag gets pulled aside. My heart sinks already. ...

TIFU by making a leasing manager think that my finance and I do porn

This actually happened yesterday. So let me clarify some things first, my fiance (M23) and I (F20) every once in awhile are posting our own content on YouTube (like I'm trying to get on a flow of posting ASMR videos). The only problem we have is we live in an apartment with someone above us and below us so finding a time for it to be quiet can be difficult. Our lease is almost up so we made a plan to try to find either a house or a townhome so we won't have to worry about noise and go all out on videos. Well yesterday we found a townhome and went to talk to the leasing manager to see what is available. She told us about a 2 bedroom one available and that sounded perfect for us. While we were there she didn't have any townhomes we could go tour but she did have a video. While showing us the video, we got to the 2nd bedroom and she asked "What are you guys planning on doing with the 2nd bedroom?" and without thinking I just blurt out "oh, we film" withou...
