TIFU by forgetting to remove a trans flag in my whatsapp pfp

I am a transmasc, and have a transmasc flag as my whatsapp pfp. I go to a girl's school, and uhh I forgot to change the pfp, because ya know, i'm kinda forgetful. People started to catch on about my pfp, and realized that im trans. so now there are two camps: one camp think sthat i was born with a penis and then chopped it off, another thinks that i got a penis surgically attached to me. The rumour spread like wildfire, and I didn't catch on until it was way too late. Couldn't hide the rumours anymore. By monday, the school will have caught on, and they'll definitely tell my parents. This would be fine if i 1) didn't go to a girls school and 2) didnt have transphobic parents... oh well isnt ny luck ROTTEN!!! TL;DR: people found out that i am transmasc, rumour spreading like wildfire, and my family is gonna find out.

TIFU by telling my best friend I hooked up with his mom

I had stopped drinking alcohol for a while, but yesterday was my best friend Sam's (fake name) birthday. Since it was his birthday, a bunch of us went over to his place to celebrate. Sam's dad left him and his mom about six years ago, so it's just been the two of them since then. After around four months of not drinking, I decided to have a few drinks because Sam insisted. The problem was, Sam gave me way more alcohol than I should've had, and he was pretty drunk himself. Everyone was drinking, and eventually people started leaving until it was just me and Sam. We started talking about random stuff, and eventually he told me that his mom was thinking about getting married again. Sam wasn't okay with it. While we were talking about it, I stupidly said something like, "Honestly, I think your mom should get married again. She probably needs someone too." Then, because I was extremely drunk and apparently had completely lost my filter, I told him tha...

TIFU by triggering an existential crisis

I try to be very careful about how I phrase things, because I want to avoid confusion. But when comic timing is on the line, that goes out the window. In this particular case I wish I had taken the time to choose my words more carefully, because I somehow found the most awkward phrasing imaginable. I was at a work function. It was a conference, where a many of the bigwigs in my industry congregate from across the state every year to learn about what changes are coming down the pipe. For the story, I was specifically at the social event the evening before the conference. In past years I haven't attended the social. I'm not a super extraverted person. But after a recent promotion I'm at least a mediumwig myself, so it was more of an obligation this year. There was also alcohol present, but I can't blame it for this one-- I'm not much of a drinker so I was only about 3/4 of a beer deep after a few hours of mingling. Anyway, I was floating around the room rubbing ...

TIFU by wearing Amazon bike shorts through airport security

I work in a restaurant that requires a lot of running around, and this summer has been SO HOT, so I occasionally wear some spandexy bike shorts when I know it’ll be uncomfortable wearing full pants. They are mid thigh length, normal bike shorts with pockets that I got for like $15 online. They’re super comfy, yay. Today I flew out of PHL and when I was going through the body scanner, they had me take my shoes off and go back through. This time, the male TSA officer says “she’ll see you over there.” I walk over to the female officer and she says, “okay your shoes are off and it’s still alerting us…in your crotch and bottom area.” I turn around to look at their screen - my crotch and crack were lit up bright red and nothing else was. She asks if I want to go to a private area or just do it there. I initially said private, she hesitated while checking to see if there was a spot available, so I said “it’s cool just do it here” because I just wanted it to be over with. Then I get back-o...

TIFU By touching grass

So I(36 F) work at a school transportation department as a driver. This means I use company cars to get kids to and from school (as they can't get ride along bus for whatever reason). The company vehicle gets serviced every set number of miles or if something comes up. Very nice, but can be annoying as I have to park elsewhere and therefore am stuck at the place if the vehicle needs work/breaks down. I took the van i drive into their mechanic shop and knew it was going to be a long time (special extra battery for safety auto stop/start system, to be more exo friendly.*EDITED FOR CLARITY). At least a few hours to do the work. I am NOT a morning person but love kids, so i do my best to be awake at crack of dawn. While waiting I check to see if I can get a coffee to stay awake. Nope. Knowing they have my number, I decide to take advantage of the nice weather (70s with a decent breeze and solid shade) just outside. Mechanic is amused and agrees to let me know. So I go outside, si...

TIFU: by trying to open the wrong car

I came out of a store and walked toward what I thought was my car. Same color, parked where I remembered leaving it. I pressed the unlock button. Nothing. I pressed it again, then tried the door handle. Then I looked through the window. There was a kid in the back seat staring directly at me. I froze and looked toward the driver’s seat. A dad was staring at me like I was trying to steal his family. I realized it wasn’t my car. He rolled down the window and I said, “shoot, I’m so sorry. I thought this was my car.” He started laughing and said, “I was wondering what you were doing. You were fighting with that door forever.” We both started laughing like crazy. My actual car was two spaces away. Same color & model. “TL;DR” what a great way to start off the weekend!

TIFU by laminating a birthday card

I teach at a specialized school for students with emotional and mental disabilities. At this school, students' birthdays are celebrated with great importance and reverence. Yesterday, I spent the entire day rushing to gather signatures for a birthday card we had created for one of our students. The card was a single sheet of paper featuring his favorite kaiju character, and the entire staff had planned to sign it and present it to him. I tirelessly moved around the school to collect all the signatures in time for today’s celebration. Once it was complete, I placed the card in the laminator to protect it from damage. However, when I retrieved it, I was devastated to find that all the signatures and heartfelt notes had vanished. I soon realized I had used an erasable pen, which another teacher had kindly lent me so everyone could write their personal messages. Unfortunately, the laminator's heat caused the ink to disappear completely, erasing all the thoughtful comments and signa...

TIFU by comparing someone to Hitler

I’m a manager at a tech company, currently recruiting for my team. For those not in the know, recruiting is a miserable process. Trust me, we hate this end of the process almost as much as you do. I must’ve interviewed over 3 dozen candidates at this point, most of which fell apart in the technical interview, and those that didn’t wound up withdrawing due to offers that came in before my talent team sent them a letter. Anyway, I interviewed a candidate yesterday along with my lead developer, and my director. She did very well, very minor reservations about her personality given the position she was going for but we liked her a lot. We were pinging each other in the background, discussing ways to challenge her, commenting on her performance in the interview, yada yada yada. After we were done and said goodbye to our candidate, I called the two of them to discuss the interview. And me, being “funny” opened the call with “THAT’S OUR HITLER!” In my best Nathan Lane impression. My lead de...

TIFU by accidentally lending stained sheets to my new neighbors

This happened a few weeks ago, but I still claim the right to post about it. Context: I just started college. I’m in a new state, I don’t know anyone here. I live in a dorm room by myself. I was supposed to have a roommate, but when we were texting beforehand, I told her that I was a transgender woman, and she ghosted me and didn’t show up. One side of the room has all my stuff, the other has an empty mattress, an empty closet, empty dressers, and an empty desk. I also, for some reason, brought four sets of bedsheets. I quickly realized why I wouldn’t need that many, so I just have a lot to spare. The event: One day, a few people who live on my floor knocked at my door asking if I had a spare air mattress that they could borrow. I don’t have one, but there is an entire unused mattress in my dorm room, so I said they could take it. On their way out, I also gave them a set of bedsheets. It was a completely unused set of purple sheets, folded up in my drawer, and I handed it over. ...

TIFU by not checking information on my job

So I (25f) started in August a new job in an area that's new to me(logistics), I have no relevant experience with the magnitude that y new job has, which is something that when I got hired was highlighted that it was a gap that had to be filled. The last 2 weeks I've started to have more responsibilities and with that came a lot of checking information in a few platforms; in one of them I have to check that shipments get on time and if they have delays, I have to modify the time on the platform so the warehouse can accept it if it's not modified on time the option blocks itself and you can get a fine, and the whole reservation has a period of time that if the cargo is not received that availability of the space will expire and you get an even bigger fine. While checking and modifying there was this shipment that their option to modify was already blocked but it still was not expired, since I couldn't modify it, I didn't check when it was going to expire and now toda...

TIFU by putting Ramen in the work microwave without water in it.

I think i felt more embarrassed with myself today than I ever have in my entire life. I just started working as a substitute teacher and miraculously got a long term sub job at a high school to teach my favorite subject. It is very difficult as i have only been substitute teaching for a few weeks but this is a really good opportunity to show off and make a good impression to eventually get a full time job. Well, usually I bring a big lunch but I was in a rush this morning and grabbed a cup Ramen to make in the microwave at work. I am so tired and sleep deprived from this job(and plain old stupid with adhd), that i put the Ramen straight in the microwave and set it for 3 minutes. No water. Then I left to take care of something. I came back and yellow nasty plastic smelling smoke was coming out of the microwave. I opened it, and acrid smoke came FLOODING out of the microwave and filled the entire staff room in moments. It is a miracle the fire alarm didn't go off. The ENTIRE seco...

TIFU: by delivering a truckload of rats to a transfer station

I’m a roll-off garbage truck driver. The transfer station at my yard only handles cardboard, but people hide garbage underneath it. The station separates the garbage and puts it into a 40-yard bin. The place has a massive rat problem. I actually hate dumping even cardboard there because there are rats running everywhere. And these aren’t little rats, they’re fucking huge. I rarely ever dump that 40-yard bin. Today, the guy loaded it onto my truck, I tarped it and headed to another transfer station. On the highway, I look in my mirror and see the two cars behind me swerving all over the road. Then I realize rats are jumping out of my bin and onto the highway. It was literally a scene straight out of a fucking movie. Rats flying out of the bin, cars swerving everywhere, and me sitting there wondering what the hell I had just unleashed. I get to the other transfer station and now I have to open the doors. I was fucking pissing myself. I smack the doors open and sprint back to ...

TIFU by proving to my partner she is 12 Kg heavier than she believed

To give some context to the title, My partner gave birth to our son about five months ago and has put on some weight during the pregnancy. Completely normal and she still looks fantastic. Last weekend we were out in the city for my sister’s birthday and she tells me (proudly) she has lost weight and is now down to about 76 Kg. However I saw her on the scale a week prior and I knew for a fact that was impossible. Because when I last saw her weigh herself it was around 88 Kg. And I would know of she’d lose 12 Kg in the span of a week because that would just be unnaturally healthy. So I told her “you’re off by 10 right?”. She seemed genuinely surprised. She was certain she had lost the weight because she went on the scale that morning. (She was also feeling great about it and herself). But I decided to rain on her parade and tell her she was probably wrong and it would have been almost impossible for her to lose that much weight in a week. We drank and ate like usual.. didn’t run an...

TIFU by telling my friend the truth

For context years ago I had a friend where we were good together but the moment she introduced me into her circle of friends things became a mess, whenever one of them had a problem with me wheather it was my child like behavior (Teenage years) or autism behavior, they would complain to my friend and then she would tell me I am the problem and should change or else i would grow up to be alone. I tried talking to her about the bullying and how I didnt like it but again she tells me I should just live with it because I deserved it. after a big outburst on my end i thought It was best to cut ties with her and the group and be happy, over the years I told myself that I made a mistake and i should not have cut ties with her beating myself up and all that noise, a mutual friend told me she wont mind if i messaged her again and so I did. when we talked nothing about her has changed she still talks to me telling me rude things and passing it off as her wisdom, when the mutual and I got in a ...

TIFU: 50 year old made an Absolute Fool Out of Me and Took My Brand New Tennis Racket.

This happened yesterday, and I'm still annoyed with myself. For context, I'm around a average to intermediate level in tennis and regularly play in my complex. I've seen this overweight uncle in his late 50s at my apartment complex. I've seen him play a couple of times. He's not particularly fast, doesn't hit huge serves, and looks more like someone you can move around a bit and snag easy points. 2 weeks ago I showed up with a brand new Ezone 100. Like any idiot with new gear, I was proudly showing it off. He asked to hit a few balls with it, took a couple swings, and he really enjoyed it and mentioned he plans to get one soon too. Then he handed it back and we went about our day. Somehow we ended up making a challenge match with a side bet attached a week later. Feeling confident and probably a little arrogant, I agreed that if I lost, he could keep the racket. He just smiled. He also knew I'd been talking about getting a pair of Asics Solution Speed FF4...

TIFU by letting a stranger into my apartment building because he knew a dog's name

I was coming home carrying groceries when a guy was standing outside my building saying his fob wasn't working. Normally I don't let random people in, but while we were talking Milo, one of the dogs in the building, came through the lobby with his dog walker. The guy immediately went "hey Milo" and Milo got super excited and walked right up to him. The dog walker clearly didn't know the guy either, but she didn't seem concerned, so between that and Milo recognizing him I figured he had to live there or at least belong there somehow. That was enough proof for my stupid brain apparently. I held the door open for him and went upstairs. Maybe 20 minutes later I hear yelling in the hallway, then someone knocking on doors asking if anybody had let a guy inside. Turns out he actually used to live in the building, which is why he knew Milo. What I didn't know was that his ex still lives here and he specifically wasn't supposed to have access anymore. ...

TIFU by being too lazy to refill my humidifier properly

This actually happened a while ago, but I once wanted to refill my humidifier and was too lazy to bring the entire thing to the toilet to fill it up from the sink. My mum has this habit of reusing bottles after we finish them. Coke bottles, Sprite bottles, whatever. She would fill them with mineral water and put them in the fridge so we always have cold water. So naturally, I opened the fridge looking for one. I saw a big Coke bottle filled with what was very obviously water, grabbed it, and poured it into my humidifier. It cleared at least HALF of the bottle. Nothing seemed wrong. Humidifier was running. Room was being humidified. Life was good. About half an hour later, my domestic helper came up to me and asked: “Did you drink the water from the Coke bottle?” I was like, “Why?” She said, “That’s Zamzam." 💀 For context, Zamzam water is holy water in Islam that comes from the Zamzam well in Mecca. Muslims often bring it home after performing pilgrimage, so it’s ...

TIFU by pretending I was already doing my degree when I hadn't even finished my diploma

Throwaway because I'm absolutely screwed. I genuinely don't know what to do right now. Last year, I was supposed to finish my diploma. I had one exam that I didn't take, which meant I never actually graduated. The plan was that after finishing the diploma, I'd continue to university and start my degree earlier this year. Except... I didn't. And instead of telling my parents that I hadn't graduated yet, I told them I had started my degree. So for months I've basically been pretending to be an undergraduate student. I've been answering questions about school, acting like everything is normal, and hoping I could somehow fix the diploma situation before anyone found out. Yeah. That obviously didn't work. My dad doesn't know much about university administration, but he's apparently been suspicious for a while. This week he's planning to go to the university administration himself to find out what's actually going on. ...

TIFU by looking like a shoplifter when Im just a ditz

Embarassing as hell, super stupid. I went into a vans store at the mall, saw a hoodie I kinda liked, but didnt know how the fit felt and it seemed heavy on me. Naturally, I wanted to see how it looked on me, and the first reflective surface I see was the black glass, open door. I walk toward it, trip the alarm, all eyes on me. Felt like shit, publically embarassed, and hate looking like a thief. Feels bad man. I did my best to clarify it was a mistake and I was just looking for my reflection, dude guy said "theres a mirror over there" (it was a shoe mirror, useless for anything above my hips) and I walked shamefully over to kinda duck into my reflection there. I feel ashamed, I hate feeling like a thief or potential thief. Id so much rather everyone in the room go "oh hes just stupid" and laugh then whatever reaction I actually got. Tl;DR I tried on a hoodie that felt weird, tried to catch my reflection in the fucking door like an idiot.

TIFU by thinking my monitor broke

Earlier this week I was moving some things around on my desk. Next thing I know my monitor shuts off. I have no idea why it lost power. I keep trying to hit the button on the back to get it to turn on. Nothing. I start searching the internet for a new power adapter and can’t find an exact fit to mine. Today, I decided to give it another try before buying a new monitor. I pick the whole monitor up to take a better look at it. This is when I found out that the button on the back is in fact not the power button. The power button is under the screen and right where my hand went and apparently bumped when I was moving things around. My monitor turned back on and now I have no issues. TLDR; I didn’t know where the power button was on my monitor. Accidentally bumped it and thought my monitor broke.
